Who in the Hell is Ray McGill?

Hey everyone,

You may have already heard me speaking, and accidentally interrupting Shea (I swear his lag was that bad on my end) on the Chompcast this past week. But for those of you who didn’t, as well as those who may want to actually see why I am being brought on, a written introduction is in order. My name is Ray, and I have known Rich for quite a while at this point. I was introduced to the Sword Chomp group through him, and he knows that I am at least a halfway-decent writer.

I am from Long Island, NY, and like Rich, I have been playing video games for pretty much as long as I can remember. My first console was the NES, which I got when I was roughly 5 years old, and I think I really came into my own as a capital-G “Gamer” in the PS1 era. My favorite type of video game is for sure Japanese role-playing games. I love story, I love intricate combat systems, and I love turn-based fare. My favorite games that I have ever played are things such as: Persona 4 Golden, Suikoden 2, Persona 5, Xenogears, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy 8, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Yakuza: Like a Dragon was also an unexpected surprise.

While I love JRPG’s, they are not what I exclusively play; I am also a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed series, the Yakuza series Mass Effect 1-3, and 2-D fighting game series like Street Fighter, and King of Fighters. I also love older-style platformers, like Super Mario World, Mega Man and Adventure Island. Oh, and I love golf games, especially the Hot Shots Golf series (now known as Everybody’s Golf).

I’m not really a shooter person, so you won’t find me waxing poetic about old Quake games, or the latest Call of Duty entry, nor will you find me able to talk authoritatively about things like Fortnite, sports games (besides golf), or survival games. You know, the actually popular stuff.

I intend on being a prolific writer for the site, and if the main 3 are ever ready to make a bad choice again, you may hear me on the Chompcast down the line. Feel free to hit me up in comments, on Twitter, or however you talk to the others on the site. I’m looking forward to writing for you fine folks, and talking to you guys about all things nerdy. If you ever want to find me on the internet, you can find me on Twitter. It’s a new account, made really so I can engage with my gaming opinions in a more separated fashion

-Ray McGill
