The two common reactions to witnessing a kerfluffle in the ancient world.
Morgan was at the local outdoor swimming pool catching some rays. He felt the sun beaming down on his pale dad bod, bronzing and burning it simultaneously. His eyes were closed as he alternated between relaxing with nothing in his mind and thinking of 10 jokes about Fish’s penis as fast as he could. A smile widened from ear to ear as he made himself chuckle frequently.
“HEY!”
Morgan opened his eyes and jolted up from laying down, looking to where the loud voice boomed from. He saw a man standing right in front of him with an angry gaze. The man’s fists were balled and his chest was flared. He wasn’t a particularly large man, but Morgan felt a bit intimidated nonetheless. Morgan didn’t know how to fight, and it worried him that the man clearly was looking for one.
“Hey! I’m talking to you, ya jerk. You’re lying in my spot!”
Morgan let out an involuntary chuckle as he said, “I’ve been here for almost two hours. There’s no way this was your spot”
“Oh, so now you’re gonna call me a liar?”
Morgan looked to defuse the situation, as he didn’t want to fight or get arrested. He quizzically stated, “I honestly don’t know what you want. I’m not looking for any problems. I’ve been here since the pool opened.”
“I’ll tell you what I want. I want to settle this now. Get your fat butt up!”
Morgan, offended, blurted out, “I’m not getting into a kerfluffle with you.”
The man looked incredulously at Morgan and scoffed. “Don’t you mean kerfuffle?”
Morgan continued, “No a kerfluffle. A donnybrook. A foofaraw. A helter-skelter,” he read from his phone as he slid his screen for more words.
The man laughed uproariously and said, “That’s kerfuffle, not fluffle. Ya idiot.”
The man walked off laughing, leaving Morgan to ponder what just happened.
