Chompcast 39 - The Imitation Game

A video game is a strange and awful thing.  In old times, without knowing so much of their strangeness and awfulness as we do, people were yet more afraid of video games.  But then somehow they had not come to see how beautiful they are as well as awful, and they hated them - and what people hate they must fear.  Now that we have learned to look at them with admiration, perhaps we do not feel quite awe enough of them.  To me they are beautiful terrors.

This week we discuss our favorite clones, talk about new settings we'd like to see for old series, and answer some listener questions.  We also talk about gifts that Morgan gave us on his birthday, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Stellaris.

Join us next week for a special interview with Dave, the leather guy.

Chompcast 38 - A Little Taste of Prey

You enter a cold room.  There is a foul, metallic taste to the air.  You can hear your every breath.  Each sound amplified, ringing out with an eerie certainty.  There is no one here that is alive but you.  You smell a mix of dust and rotting flesh.  You suddenly notice that your throat is arid, and you are dying for your thirst to be quenched.  You desperately search for a water source when you spot a water fountain.  You stagger over there, weary and injured from your previous battles with the foul creatures.  You bend at the waist towards the water fixture, lowering your head to receive the best water you’ll ever taste.  You start to drink. After what takes seemingly forever, the water replenishes your low health... by one point?!?

Prey is on the minds of Swordchomp this week as we discuss our time with the demo.  Fish and Shea square up on a challenge by playing each other’s current mobile gaming obsession.  Morgan and Josh also discuss their short time with Nier: Automata.  We also manage to squeeze in some inspired questions, such as favorite DLC, nerve-striking gaming moments, and Morgan coming one year closer to rotting in a grave (we love you Princess Momo).  Pull up a chair, grab a nice brew out of the fridge, and relax as we weave tales of gaming for your pleasure.

Join us next week when Josh shares how to covertly scratch that itch... you know the one.

Chompcast 36 - Star Wars

The last drops of the thundershower had hardly ceased falling when the Pedestrian stuffed his map into his pocket, settled his pack more comfortably on his tired shoulders, and stepped out from the shelter of a large chestnut-tree into the middle of the Chompcast.

This week on the Chompcast we discuss Star Wars, video game demos, and the length of video games.

Join us again next week when Fish tells us which blood makes the best satanic runes, and gives us a recipe for a lovely sandwich.

Chompcast 33 - Another Podcast Without That Douche, Shea

Busting down the doors of the high school, you slide into the hallway, racing forward with feverish anxiety.  You're late!  Your test has already started, and you slept in.  You idiot.  You can't afford to fail this test.  You are only a few minutes late when you enter the classroom.  You are scolded by the teacher, but she still allows you to take the test.  After powering through the rigorous exam, you rush out of class to meet up with your girlfriend.  She's mad at you from the night before.  You meet up with her at her locker, and you say hi.  She ignores the greeting, but turns to hand you a case with a brand new game in it.  You look down and you see P5 printed on a red and black case.  You look back up and you are absolutely intrigued.

This week, we delved into some interesting topics that weighed on our mind, such as the BAFTA awards, the new Alien movie, initial thoughts on Persona 5, and Fish’s time thus far with Catherine.

Chompcast 32 - Sword Chomp Rapid Fire 2

With another busy week for the crew and Shea's proud podcasting return, we embark on a second week of rapid fire podcast topics.  The subjects range from movies (such as remakes and favorites from a director), to Starcraft 1 remastered, and everything in between.  Josh and Morgan could not pull themselves away from Breath of the Wild, so the rest of the crew grabs some popcorn and is entertained by some more glorious chatter about Zelda.  Morgan also discusses more of his time with Mass Effect: Andromeda, as well as a bonding moment with his daughter playing Lego Jurassic World.  Enjoy the Chompcast, and happy gaming!

This week we celebrate Shea buggering off out of our country and, as an added bonus, our continent too.  We have a rapid fire discussion about a variety of topics from food to politics so everyone can get to know one another a little better (except for Shea, thank God).  We'll be back next week with the regular video game discussion and possibly Shea if out expatriate friend is settled in time to record with us.

Chompcast 30 - Shea Day 2017

"It plays the PT with its hands or else it gets its reprimands!"  Morgan jeers down into the hole where Shea is being forced to play video games.  "Wasn't Abzu enough?" Shea whimpers back after refilling the basket that ferries down each game in exchange for the last.  In response, a can of Diet Mountain Dew Code Red flies past Shea's temple and crashes into his left collar bone, shattering it.
This week we discuss several games that Shea finally had a chance to play during a visit to Morgan's house: PT, Bloodborne, Thumper, Abzu, and Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Chompcast 29 - Praise the Sun

Spanning mountains and seas, two heroes travel in search of answers, identity, and resolution.  Facing enemies and trials alike, nothing will stop our heroes from achieving their missions. One, an outcast who is out to prove her worth, the other, an amnesiac who must thwart the sealed evil growing inside a castle.
We are here today to wrap up our thoughts on Horizon Zero Dawn, and to discuss our initial thoughts on Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  We switch (hehehe) gears with some news regarding the Nintendo Switch, For Honor losing players, and No Man’s Sky updates.  Chomp on!

Skyline Naught Morn

screen.jpg

Slithering and slinking through the grass, red tresses flow through with ease. Blurry, hasty, obscure.  You cannot catch her.  She stalks the mechanized fauna, observing their movements.  Ever-ready to kill, she stays her hand, recognizing that the situation calls for silence and caution.  The Machine turns its back to her, looking for any potential enemies that will disrupt the feeding time of the rest, unaware that the red tresses are rushing toward it with precision.  It hears a slight, abnormal brush of the ground.  The Machine turns towards the peculiar sound, but does not see anything.  The red tresses have leapt overhead.  Bringing down the staff with all of her might, she smashes the Machine’s ocular cavity, killing it with ease.  Looking around, no one has noticed her.  She slinks back into the grass, unseen, as if she was never there.

As you can tell, Horizon Zero Dawn is on the brain this week as we here at Swordchomp have delved deep into the game this week.  A gratifying and visceral experience, the game was well-met here with us.  We also manage to discuss some preliminary thoughts with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and some continuing thoughts on Fire Emblem: Fates.  We top off this action-packed podcast with news regarding a country kerfuffle caused by Ghost Recon Wildlands, Destiny 2, and Xbox Game Pass. Enjoy the talk regarding Aloy, and happy gaming!

Chompcast Horror Roundtable

The sound of footsteps resonate too loudly as we creep down the dank, dark hallway.  Heavy breathing penetrates our shivering bodies.  The thick, icy air becomes more and more painful to inhale.  The creaking of a hinge sounds in the distance, freezing us all in our tracks, breaths held.  Behind us, deep, loud breathing... now closer... the wet breath strikes the back of our necks.  We hesitantly turn around and come face to face with the brand new episode of the Chompcast!

Filled with horror and suspense, we have our second roundtable episode where we discuss our personal top three horror games.  We also manage to discuss Fish and Morgan's newest phone addiction, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.  Morgan also lays down the first Chompcast challenge ever, as he prompts Josh to beat his high score on Super Mario Run.  We discuss news topics such as sales of systems and games during the holiday season, cancelling of Scalebound, the new Mass Effect trailer, Guillermo Del Toro, and the Marvel/Square Enix mashup.
